La montagne\u00a0est le\u00a0lieu o\u00f9\u00a0les esclaves\u00a0se cachaient et\u00a0s\u2019abritaient\u00a0pour fuir leurs ma\u00eetres et le syst\u00e8me de l\u2019esclavage.\u00a0Le Morne a \u00e9t\u00e9 menac\u00e9 de disparition\u00a0par des projets \u00e0 caract\u00e8re touristique &#8211; Integrated Resort Scheme (IRS) &#8211;\u00a0 qui ont failli y voir le jour (la construction d\u2019un t\u00e9l\u00e9f\u00e9rique, d\u2019un restaurant, des bungallows et d\u2019un h\u00f4tel\u00a0 5 \u00c9toiles) d\u00e9truisant le lieu symbolique dans la lutte contre l\u2019esclavage.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">L\u2019intervention des Verts Fraternels&nbsp;sur le plan politique avec notamment&nbsp;la mobilisation annuelle chaque &nbsp;1<sup>er<\/sup>&nbsp;f\u00e9vrier \u00e0 partir de 1999, pour comm\u00e9morer l\u2019abolition de&nbsp;l\u2019esclavage, a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9cisive pour pr\u00e9server le site : son accord avec le gouvernement a permis de passer \u00e0 une double demande de Maurice faite au comit\u00e9 de l\u2019UNESCO&nbsp;: Apraavasy Ghat et le Morne.&nbsp;En 2009,&nbsp;l\u2019UNESCO a class\u00e9 le Morne comme \u00ab Paysage culturel de l\u2019humanit\u00e9 \u00bb&nbsp;:&nbsp;[<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/whc.unesco.org\/en\/list\/1259\">https:\/\/whc.unesco.org\/en\/list\/1259<\/a><span class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">].
